Our Team

  • Austin Terreri

    Program Director

Before coming to Prevention Corps, Austin was involved with AmeriCorps for 7 years, serving in Montana and Connecticut. He even ran a separate AmeriCorps org before finding this one, which—even though it didn’t really exist yet—so closely aligned with his interests and passions.

  • Alisson Wood

    Recruitment Director

Alisson has been empowering youth programs, teaching sex education in public schools, and working with her community in Bridgeport and NYC for nearly 15 years. She has directed an AmeriCorps program devoted to preventing teen dating violence and led girls’ groups at the Boys and Girls Club.

  • Reem Hadid

    Program Manager

As an AmeriCorps Vista Alumni, Reem has a passion for (and 10 years of experience) working with local non-profits, especially in the Fairfield County area where she grew up. Reem’s family is originally from the Middle East, so humanitarian advocacy & awareness projects domestically and internationally greatly spark her interest.

  • Rachel Barton

    Web & Social Media Coordinator

Working with Prevention Corps has allowed Rachel to combine her passion for service, her experience in non-profits, and her personal relationship with prevention initiatives. Rachel has worked in a similar role for organizations like the Smithsonian Center for Cultural Heritage.

Our History

In 2017, overdose-related deaths were consistently rising and there was no AmeriCorps program in the state or surrounding area that was wholly dedicated to addressing the growing epidemic. RYASAP, our parent not-for-profit organization, wrote a proposal for a new AmeriCorps program, Prevention Corps, that would specifically combat the opioid crisis. When the grant was approved, a small staff of two was brought on to use the skeleton of the grant to form an organization that could actually interact with and benefit the community.

In October of 2017, they were able to recruit the very first group of Prevention Corps members.

Since then, we have expanded our cohort of members, building into a rich network of professionals who either choose to continue prevention work or use the skills they learned while serving in new careers. Our mission is guided by the core values of Empowerment, Partnership, and Awareness, which enable us to best serve our local community.
